New Gallery Director notes
In Blog By by Emily Moorhead On July 16, 2011
Hello artists! I just wanted to publicly introduce myself before I meet you all at ROY events this summer. I’m Emily Moorhead, new Gallery Director for the 2011-2012 exhibition season. I am very excited to start this position and contribute to this creative powerhouse.
I thought you all might like to get to know me, so here is a little introduction to get us started. I grew up in Cincinnati and have lived in and out of the city for the past year. I attended Miami University for my BFA and received my MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. I have worked almost every art related job including archivist, preparator, videographer, and more recently art professor. Above all, I am an artist. If I had to label my art making, I would say I am a multi-media sculptor. While my work fluctuates between sculptural objects, drawings, and videos what grounds it are researched concepts.
As gallery director, I am looking most forward to interacting with other artists. Something we often take for granted is that creative conversation can inspire development in our peers work, but also in our personal studios. I have already witnessed this synergy by attending artist talks. In these forums ideas are bounced between participants while artists give insight to their methods. I can’t wait for more experiences like that. I am hoping to bring some new programming to ROY that will connect us even more to our community. I’ve been cooking up some ideas like artist demonstrations, resource workshops, and collaborative projects, but details will have to wait.
I look forward to meeting you all. Feel free to check out my member page in the ROY artist directory! Just click on the members tab at the top of the page and look for my name.
